Two Arrested, Juvenile Detained for Chatra Murder

Police in Chatra district have arrested two young men and detained a juvenile for allegedly killing an 18-year-old youth and burying his body in sand on the riverbanks, approximately 200 metres from Gariya village. The body was recovered on Sunday.

Accused Identified

The accused have been identified as Sunil Kumar, 19, and Sunil Kumar, 21, both residents of Paithal village, along with a 17-year-old boy. Chatra SDPO Sunny Vardhan stated that the deceased, Pramod Kumar, a resident of Gariya, had taken around Rs 40,000 from the accused on the pretext of arranging an illegal weapon. The accused intended to use the firearm to carry out a major crime but never received it.

Motivation for Murder

Instead of procuring the weapon, Pramod used the money to purchase a premium smartphone. “When they realised they would neither get the weapon nor their money back, they hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him,” Vardhan explained.

Investigation Details

On June 7, Pramod’s father, Deolal Yadav, lodged a complaint regarding his son’s kidnapping at Rajpur police station, leading to an FIR. A special investigation team led by the SDPO recovered the body on the same day. The case was subsequently converted to murder. “Using mobile location tracking, call detail records and human intelligence, police established that the accused had killed Pramod and buried the body to destroy evidence,” he said.

Authorities also recovered a towel and rope used in the murder, the victim’s phone, and seven live cartridges.
