Two Men Arrested in Jamshedpur for Alleged Marijuana Smuggling on NH-33
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, East Singhbhum district police arrested two individuals on Sunday evening for allegedly smuggling 50 kilograms of marijuana on National Highway 33. The arrests were made during a routine vehicle checking operation under the jurisdiction of the Baharagora police station, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trade in the region.
Details of the Seizure and Arrest
The contraband was discovered packed in 25 separate packets, each weighing 2 kilograms, concealed within a car. According to police reports, the marijuana was being transported from Odisha into Bihar, with plans to distribute it across multiple districts. The two suspects, identified as Bhim Yadav, a 32-year-old resident of the Sonari police station area in Jamshedpur, and Raj Kumar Pal, from Bhojpur district in Bihar, were apprehended at the scene.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabha Garg addressed the media on Monday, confirming the recovery and providing insights into the operation. "The narcotics were recovered during our vehicle checking drive," Garg stated, emphasizing the proactive measures taken by law enforcement. Both men have been formally charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and have been remanded to jail pending further legal proceedings.
Investigation and Gang Links
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had collected the marijuana consignment from Barakul in Chilika, Odisha. Their intended destination was Bihar, where they planned to sell the drugs to buyers spread across several districts. SP Garg added that the police have obtained crucial clues regarding the masterminds behind this smuggling operation. "We have got clues about the brains of the gang, and further probe is underway to arrest them," he announced, indicating that the investigation is expanding to target higher-level operatives involved in the drug trade.
This incident underscores the persistent challenges of drug smuggling along interstate routes and the vigilance required by authorities. The East Singhbhum police's successful interception not only prevented a large quantity of marijuana from reaching the market but also disrupted a potential distribution network. As the probe continues, officials are focusing on unraveling the broader connections and ensuring that all individuals involved are brought to justice.
