In a late-night incident that has raised concerns about street crime in the capital, two individuals were arrested for allegedly robbing a man of a significant sum of cash and expensive electronic items after smashing the rear windshield of his car in the upscale Vasant Vihar area.
The Brazen Late-Night Robbery
The incident unfolded around 11 pm on Saturday near a restaurant situated on Palam Marg. According to police reports, the victim had parked his car while his family went inside the restaurant. The man himself stayed back in the vehicle and reportedly fell asleep. Seizing this opportunity, the accused arrived in another car and parked behind the victim's vehicle.
In a swift and aggressive move, one of the men allegedly smashed the car's rear windshield. His accomplice then overpowered the startled victim, pushed him back inside the car, and fled the scene with four bags that were inside the vehicle. The bags contained Rs 1.2 lakh in cash along with several high-value electronic items.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
A Police Control Room (PCR) call was made immediately after the robbery. Following the call, a formal case was registered at the Vasant Vihar police station. The investigation was taken up by teams under the supervision of DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel.
"Acting on leads, the team conducted raids in Daya Basti, Inderlok and adjoining areas," stated DCP Goel. The breakthrough came through technical surveillance and tracking of the vehicle used in the crime. This led to the arrest of the two accused, identified as Mohd Nadeem and Ravinder.
Criminal History and Recovery
Police investigations revealed a disturbing pattern. The two arrested accused were found to have a combined criminal history involving 13 registered cases. Their past offences include serious charges like robbery, attempt to murder, and violations under the Arms Act.
The police successfully recovered the four stolen bags containing Rs 1.12 lakh of the stolen cash and the electronic items. Furthermore, the car used by the duo to commit the crime has been seized from their possession. The recovery and arrests have provided some relief in the case, which highlights the audacity of criminals in the city.
The Vasant Vihar robbery case underscores the importance of vigilance, especially when parked in isolated or dimly lit areas. The prompt response by the complainant and the subsequent use of technical intelligence by the Delhi Police proved crucial in cracking the case within a short span and putting repeat offenders behind bars.
