Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests
The Wakad police demonstrated prompt efficiency by arresting two individuals involved in a street robbery that targeted a local bedsheet vendor. The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, saw the victim being robbed of cash and a mobile phone collectively valued at Rs 20,500.
Details of the Sunday Evening Robbery
The crime unfolded around 6:15 pm on Sunday near Bhumkar Chowk. According to Assistant Police Inspector Ambarish Deshmukh, who led the investigation, the 27-year-old vendor was heading home when he was intercepted by three men on a scooter.
The assailants reportedly attacked the vendor and threatened him with a knife. In a frightening ordeal, they forcibly took Rs 500 from his wallet and snatched his cellphone, worth Rs 20,000, before fleeing the scene on their vehicle.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The victim immediately lodged a formal complaint with the Wakad police. Leveraging the fact that Sunday was a weekly market day at Dange Chowk, where extra police personnel were already deployed, the investigative team quickly sprang into action.
API Ambarish Deshmukh stated that his team traced and apprehended the accused within a day. The arrested individuals have been identified as Lokesh Pujari (31) and Sunny Mudgal (32), both residents of Ghorpadi, Pune.
The police confirmed that both suspects have existing criminal cases registered against them with the Pune police. Authorities are currently conducting a search to locate and arrest their third accomplice, who remains at large.
This incident highlights concerns regarding street crime in the area but also underscores the responsive capabilities of the local police force in addressing such threats to public safety.
