In a dramatic early morning operation, a joint police team from Phulpur and the Surveillance Cell of Ganganagar zone successfully apprehended two individuals wanted in connection with a recent shooting incident. The arrest followed an exchange of gunfire near the Baudai Modh canal in the early hours of Saturday.
The Encounter and Chase
The incident unfolded when police personnel were conducting a routine check. The two accused, who were riding a motorcycle, attempted to speed away after being signaled to stop. A chase ensued, during which the suspects opened fire on the pursuing police team.
In retaliatory action, the police returned fire. One of the accused sustained a bullet injury in his right leg. The injured individual was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. He has been identified as Azam Rayan, a resident of Jamilabad locality.
Identities and Previous Case
The second accused was captured without injury. He is Mohammad Suhail from Sarai Abdul Malik village. According to police records, Suhail was already wanted in connection with a separate case previously registered at the Phulpur police station.
Both men were allegedly involved in a serious firing incident that took place on January 7 in the Jamilabad area. In that case, a local resident named Shani Soni had filed a formal complaint alleging assault, attempted murder by firing, abuse, and criminal intimidation. A case was registered based on his complaint.
Significant Recovery of Arms and Explosives
The police made a substantial recovery from the accused at the time of their arrest. The seized items include:
- The motorcycle used during the incident.
- An illegal 0.315 bore firearm.
- Live cartridges and one empty shell.
- Four country-made bombs (crude explosive devices).
- Rs 1,200 in cash.
In light of the recovery of the firearm and explosives, the police have added stringent sections of the Arms Act and the Explosives Act to the existing case. This development marks a significant breakthrough for the Phulpur police in tackling armed criminal activity in the region.
