In a significant crackdown on illegal firearms, police in Bihar's Buxar district successfully apprehended two alleged arms smugglers on Wednesday evening. The operation led to the recovery of illegal weapons and a motorcycle from the accused.
Police Operation Based on Tip-Off
Acting on specific intelligence about the movement of individuals carrying illegal firearms, the Buxar police swiftly formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The team was constituted under the direct orders of the district superintendent of police. Following the tip-off about activities in the Kaua Khonch village area under Rajpur police station, authorities intensified checks on suspicious vehicles.
The Chase and Arrest
During the heightened vigil, police personnel spotted two men riding a red motorcycle. When signaled to stop for checking, the rider attempted to flee at high speed, triggering a pursuit. After a brief chase, the police team, with the help of constables, managed to overpower and detain both individuals.
A subsequent search of the suspects yielded immediate results. Two country-made pistols and two live cartridges were confiscated from their possession. The police confirmed that each accused was carrying one loaded pistol and two cartridges.
Identities and Confessions
The arrested individuals have been identified as Gangasagar Rajbhar, a resident of Jalilpur under Rajpur police station, and Ajit Ram, from Babanbandh under the Dhansoi police station in Buxar.
Buxar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gaurav Pandey, addressing the media on Thursday, stated that both arrested men confessed to their active involvement in the illegal arms trade. The motorcycle used in the crime was also seized as case property.
This successful operation underscores the continued efforts of the Buxar police to curb the proliferation of illegal weapons and maintain law and order in the region. Further investigations are underway to uncover their network and sources of the firearms.
