In a joint operation, the Special Task Force (STF) and Sidhari police on Wednesday arrested two undertrial prisoners who had escaped from Azamgarh jail in 2016, along with a third accomplice. To evade law enforcement, they had relocated to Punjab and worked as field laborers. A cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each had been announced for their capture.
Arrest Details
Azamgarh’s City Crime Officer (CO) Shubham Todi confirmed that Sidhari police apprehended Chandrashekhar alias Shekhar (37), a resident of Cholapur in Varanasi, and Prakash Musahar (52), from Mardah in Ghazipur district. The duo was found staying at Bakainiya (Maniya) under the Gahmar police station area in Ghazipur. Todi noted that both had fled from the district jail on August 18, 2016, and had been on the run ever since. A cash reward of Rs 1 lakh had been declared for their arrest.
Confession and Past Activities
During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed that after escaping from jail, they hid at various locations and worked as field laborers in Punjab for an extended period. They had recently returned and were residing in Ghazipur for the past few months.
