A devastating road accident near Maravanmadam in Tuticorin on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a 56-year-old bus driver and left nine passengers with serious injuries. The incident occurred when a private bus veered off the road and crashed violently into an electric pole, causing significant damage to the vehicle and trapping the driver in the wreckage.

The deceased driver has been identified as Manimuthu, a resident of Seydunganallur. According to police reports, the bus was traveling from Eral towards Tuticorin on the busy Tuticorin-Tirunelveli national highway, carrying approximately 60 passengers at the time of the crash. Around 8:30 AM, as the bus approached Maravanmadam, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to a catastrophic sequence of events.
The speeding bus first collided with an electric pole, then slammed into a sturdy palmyra tree before dragging along the roadside for nearly 100 feet before finally coming to a halt. The impact caused the front portion of the bus to become severely mangled, trapping Manimuthu in the debris and creating a chaotic scene on the highway.

Local residents and passersby immediately rushed to the scene to assist in rescuing the trapped passengers. Emergency services were quickly mobilized, and nine individuals who sustained serious injuries were transported to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
