A notorious criminal wanted in connection with a triple murder case was shot dead in an encounter with the police in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district early Tuesday morning. Two police personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire and have been hospitalized.
Encounter Details
The accused, identified as Ravi Kumar, was a prime suspect in the murder of three members of a family in the Khurja area last month. Acting on a tip-off about his presence in the Sikandrabad area, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and the local police laid a trap. When the police signaled the accused to stop, he opened fire, leading to a gunfight.
In the retaliatory action, Ravi Kumar was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Two police constables, identified as Sunil Kumar and Manoj Yadav, received bullet injuries and are undergoing treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Weapons Recovered
From the possession of the deceased, the police recovered a country-made pistol, several live cartridges, and a motorcycle that was reportedly stolen. The police are investigating if he was part of a larger gang involved in multiple crimes in the region.
Background of the Case
The triple murder had sent shockwaves through the Khurja area, with the victims being a couple and their teenage son. The motive was believed to be a property dispute. Ravi Kumar had been on the run since the incident, and a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for his arrest.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bulandshahr, Dr. Anil Kumar, praised the team for their swift action and said that the encounter was a major success in the fight against crime. He added that the injured constables would be given the best medical care and that a departmental inquiry would be conducted into the encounter as per standard procedure.
