Trichy Junction Boosts Security with 185 New HD CCTV Cameras
Trichy Railway Station Gets Advanced CCTV Surveillance

In a significant boost to passenger security, the Trichy Railway Division has launched a state-of-the-art video surveillance system at Trichy Junction, one of Southern Railway's busiest stations. The new network replaces outdated equipment with 185 high-resolution cameras positioned strategically across the entire station complex.

Massive Security Upgrade for Busy Station

The ambitious project, executed at a total cost of approximately ₹2.26 crore, was formally inaugurated by Balak Ram Negi, the Divisional Railway Manager. The DRM personally inspected the newly installed CCTV cameras at every key location to verify the system's maximum efficiency and comprehensive coverage.

Trichy Junction handles more than 50,000 passengers daily, making robust security measures essential. The signal & telecommunication branch implemented this upgrade under a dedicated scheme to replace aging CCTV infrastructure with modern technology.

Comprehensive Coverage Across Station Premises

The new IP-based surveillance network provides significantly wider and sharper monitoring capabilities compared to the previous system. Camera placement covers all critical areas including:

  • All platforms and waiting halls
  • Reservation counters and main entrance/exit points
  • Parking areas and additional entry points
  • Foot overbridge and subway passages
  • Railway yards and all passenger zones

The system features both full HD and ultra HD cameras connected to large-format monitors in a dedicated Video Surveillance System control room. This setup enables crystal-clear monitoring of station activities around the clock.

Enhanced Safety and Rapid Response Capabilities

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will monitor the advanced surveillance system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This continuous monitoring will strengthen passenger safety and enable quick detection and response to various security incidents.

The state-of-the-art facility is expected to effectively address security concerns such as theft, harassment, chain-snatching, and unauthorized entry anywhere within the station premises. The high-resolution cameras will provide clear evidence for investigation purposes while acting as a strong deterrent against criminal activities.

This major security enhancement represents the railways' commitment to ensuring passenger safety through technological modernization at one of Southern Railway's most important transportation hubs.
