Tractor Driver Arrested in Gurgaon for Obstructing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Team

In a recent incident in Gurgaon, a tractor driver was arrested for allegedly obstructing a civic team during an anti-dumping drive under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and abusing a staff member in Sheetla Colony last week. The case highlights ongoing efforts to enforce cleanliness and public health regulations in urban areas.

FIR Registered Under BNS Sections

The FIR was registered at the Sector 5 police station on February 21 under sections 126 (wrongful restraint), 221 (voluntarily obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions), and 271 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This legal action underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment to upholding public order and health standards.

Incident Details and Complaint

According to a complaint filed by 38-year-old Amit, a clerk with the Special Sanitation Force (SSF) team posted in Sector 34, the incident occurred on February 19. The team was conducting checks against illegal dumping in the area as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a nationwide cleanliness campaign. Amit reported that the team stopped a tractor driven by Rahul, a resident of Sheetla Colony, for allegedly transporting construction debris on the road without covering it with a tarpaulin, which violates environmental and safety norms.

During the inspection, the driver began arguing and used abusive language, escalating the situation. An officer stated that the accused allegedly parked his tractor in front of the SSF vehicle, blocking its movement and preventing the team from carrying out its duty. Amid the confrontation, Amit got stuck in debris that fell from the tractor, adding to the hazards of the incident. The complainant further noted that the driver left the tractor at the spot after the altercation, complicating the scene.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following a written complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Authorities confirmed that the accused joined the investigation on Sunday and was subsequently arrested. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether similar violations were committed earlier, indicating a broader probe into potential recurring offenses. This arrest serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for hindering public servants in their duties, especially in initiatives aimed at improving public health and cleanliness.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Indian government, focuses on eliminating open defecation and improving solid waste management. Incidents like this underscore the challenges faced by civic teams in enforcing these regulations and the importance of public cooperation. As the investigation continues, authorities are emphasizing the need for adherence to rules to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for all residents.
