Tragedy Strikes Pilibhit-Basti National Highway: Three Lives Lost in Separate Accidents
Police in Pilibhit reported a grim Monday evening on the Pilibhit–Basti National Highway (NH 730). Two distinct road accidents resulted in three fatalities, including two farmers. Authorities confirmed the details on Tuesday, highlighting the dangers on this crucial route.
SUV Crash Claims Two Farmers' Lives Near Kajri Niranjanpur Village
The first incident occurred around 9pm near Kajri Niranjanpur village. An SUV carrying three farmer friends suddenly veered off the road. It plunged into a roadside ditch, causing severe damage to the vehicle.
A team from the Garbakhera outpost of Seramau North police station rushed to the scene. They transported the victims to the Puranpur community health centre (CHC). Doctors at the CHC declared two men dead upon arrival.
- Harmeet Singh, aged 30, hailed from Nabadia Banki village.
- Jaideep Singh, aged 35, was a resident of Sherpur Makrandpur village.
Santosh Kumar, the outpost in-charge, provided more context. "The trio was returning from a wedding at the farmhouse of BJP functionary Sarvan Singh Lahauria in Kajri Niranjanpur village," he explained. "While two lost their lives, the third occupant survived with minor injuries."
The survivor, Luvpreet Singh, is 26 years old and lives in Mainakot village. Dr Ankit Kumar, the medical officer on emergency duty at the CHC, attended to him. "Luvpreet experienced mental shock from the accident," Dr Kumar stated. "We provided counselling and treatment before discharging him."
Father-Son Duo Hit by Car Near Sugar Mill
Earlier that evening, around 6.30pm, a second accident unfolded in front of a local sugar mill. Mohammad Sahil, aged 20, was dropping off his father, Mohammad Siddiq, aged 45. Siddiq worked as a guard at the mill.
A car coming from the opposite direction collided with their scooty. Both Sahil and Siddiq fell onto the road. Bystanders took them to the same Puranpur CHC for medical attention.
Doctors at the CHC declared Siddiq dead. His son Sahil sustained critical injuries in the crash. After administering first aid, medical staff referred Sahil to the autonomous State Medical College for advanced care.
Pawan Kumar Pandey, the SHO of Puranpur Kotwali, provided an update on the investigation. "We are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the car involved," he said. "An FIR will be registered once we receive a formal written complaint."
These back-to-back accidents have cast a shadow over Pilibhit. They underscore the urgent need for enhanced safety measures on NH 730. Local authorities continue their probe into both cases, seeking to prevent such tragedies in the future.
