In a swift action, the Shivajinagar police detained three men on Saturday for stealing iron lids of drainage chambers from the Shimla Office chowk on Ganeshkhind road. The incident occurred around 10am, and the accused are all residents of Senapati Bapat road.

Police constable Sheshrao Bhalerao, who was on duty at the chowk, noticed the men stealing the lids and immediately stopped the autorickshaw in which they were traveling with the stolen items. Senior inspector Girish Dighavkar of Shivajinagar police informed TOI, 'The missing lids could have caused serious accidents on the road. The alert constable not only detected the theft but also prevented a potential accident.'

Dighavkar added, 'We seized the heavy iron drainage lids, which were immediately handed over to the Pune Municipal Corporation officials. The autorickshaw used by the trio to ferry the stolen lids has also been seized.' The trio intended to sell the lids as scrap to earn quick money, he said.
