Threat to INLD's Abhay Chautala Persists: Chandigarh Police to HC

Chandigarh Police Informs High Court of Persistent Threat to INLD Leader Abhay Chautala

The Chandigarh Police has officially informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that a significant threat perception continues to loom over Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader and former MLA, Abhay Singh Chautala. This critical update was submitted through a detailed affidavit filed by Lakshay Pandey, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for Security at Headquarters, in response to a protective petition filed by Chautala himself.

WhatsApp Threat Call Originates from London, UK

According to the police affidavit, a disturbing WhatsApp threat call was received by Karan Chautala, the son of Abhay Chautala, on the evening of July 15, 2025. The call, which came in at precisely 10:55 PM, originated from a foreign telephone number registered in London, United Kingdom. During this call, Karan Chautala was allegedly threatened with elimination, prompting immediate action from the Chautala family.

An First Information Report (FIR) was registered on the very same day at the Sector 3 police station in Chandigarh, marking the beginning of a formal investigation into this serious matter. The Chandigarh Police emphasized that concerted efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend the accused individual behind this international threat.

Enhanced Security Measures Implemented in Chandigarh

In light of the ongoing threat assessment, which confirms that the apprehension of danger to Abhay Chautala persists, the Chandigarh Police has implemented a series of robust security protocols. The police stated in their affidavit that they have acted promptly and with due diligence to ensure the safety of the INLD leader and his family.

Key security enhancements include:

  • Intensified beat patrolling around the vicinity of Chautala's residence in Sector 9, Chandigarh.
  • Increased patrols by Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles in the area to provide round-the-clock surveillance.
  • Adequate preventive security measures adopted at and around House No. 80, Sector 9 A, Chandigarh, the official residence of Abhay Chautala.

These measures are specifically designed to thwart any potential untoward incidents and to guarantee the security of the petitioner and his immediate family members.

Existing Y-Plus Security Cover from Haryana Government

The police affidavit further revealed that Abhay Chautala is officially recognized as a protected person by the state of Haryana. According to intelligence agency reports, the Haryana government has already provided him with Y-plus category security, which is a high-level protective cover typically reserved for individuals facing significant threats.

This security arrangement includes:

  1. One dedicated guard team comprising two exempted assistant sub-inspectors and three constables deployed at Teja Khera Farm in Sirsa.
  2. An additional seven police personnel from the Haryana Police assigned specifically for pilot and escort duties during Chautala's movements.

The Chandigarh Police's submission to the High Court comes after the court's directive on December 16, 2025, which required the Union Territory police to file a comprehensive reply regarding the security concerns raised by Chautala. This case highlights the intersection of political security, international threats via digital platforms, and the judicial oversight of protective measures for public figures in India.
