Thiruvananthapuram Police Launches Extensive Night Security Operation
In a significant move to bolster public safety and deter criminal activities, the Thiruvananthapuram City Police executed a large-scale night security and vehicle inspection drive across all police sub-divisions. This comprehensive operation was strategically designed to enhance surveillance mechanisms and proactively prevent crime throughout the city.
Targeted Areas and Intensive Checks
The security initiative focused meticulously on vulnerable and sensitive locations identified as potential hotspots. Police teams conducted thorough inspections at commercial centres, crowded public spaces, deserted stretches, popular tourist destinations, and various accommodation facilities. A total of 401 establishments, including hotels, lodges, homestays, and counters operating in tourist centres and city areas, were scrutinized during the operation.
Furthermore, the drive extended to labor camps, with 98 such camps being inspected. This led to the registration of 19 cases for violations, primarily involving the failure to produce valid documents by occupants or operators.
Vehicle Screening and Legal Actions
Vehicle checks constituted a major component of the night-long operation. Police personnel screened an impressive 1,067 vehicles, encompassing two-wheelers and heavy vehicles alike. Out of these, 543 motorists faced fines under the Motor Vehicles Act for various infractions.
Additionally, law enforcement registered 124 cases for serious offences, including drunk driving, obstructing traffic, and other violations. The drive also saw the execution of pending warrants, with nine long-pending warrants and 13 other court-issued warrants being successfully executed against accused individuals in multiple cases.
Focus on History-Sheeters and Substance Abuse
As part of the intensified surveillance, police checked 241 persons listed as history-sheeters to monitor their activities and movements. The operation also resulted in two cases being registered under the NDPS Act, targeting narcotics and psychotropic substances, while 51 cases were booked under the Abkari Act, addressing liquor-related violations.

City Police Commissioner Karthick K emphasized that the checks were fundamentally aimed at ensuring public safety through enhanced night policing strategies. He stated, "Such intensive security inspections will continue in the city in the coming days to deter crime and maintain law and order." This declaration underscores the police department's commitment to sustaining rigorous surveillance and preventive measures to foster a secure environment for residents and visitors.
