Ludhiana Police Book Thar Driver After Lohri Tragedy Kills Siblings
Police in Ludhiana registered a case on Monday against the driver of a Thar vehicle. The driver faces charges for causing death due to negligence. This follows a tragic accident on Sunday evening near Jagraon on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur road.
Lohri Celebration Turns Fatal
A brother and sister lost their lives in a head-on collision. The accident occurred as they returned home to Bagha Purana village in Moga district. They had just delivered Lohri gifts to their elder sister in Ludhiana. The festive occasion turned into a nightmare for the family.
Sources describe the scene near a roadside dhaba. The Thar, coming from the Moga side, reportedly went out of control. It crossed the median space and crashed into a car heading towards Moga. The impact was severe. The car then got pushed under a truck moving ahead.
Victims Identified and Injuries Detailed
The car occupants were identified as Jabar Singh and his sister Hardeep Kaur. Both hailed from Bagha Purana in Moga district. They sustained critical injuries in the collision. The driver of the Thar also suffered serious injuries.
All three individuals were rushed to a government hospital in Jagraon. Despite medical efforts, Jabar Singh and Hardeep Kaur succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The Thar driver remains under medical care.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Police sources indicate a preliminary investigation points to driver negligence. The Thar driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to the deadly crash. Senior officers responded promptly to the accident scene.
DSP Jaswinder Singh Dhindsa, Inspector Surjeet Singh from Sadar police station, and ASI Sukhvinder Singh from the bus stand police post arrived with a team. ASI Sukhvinder Singh confirmed the legal steps taken.
The police booked the Thar driver, identified as Inderjit Singh from Gondwal village in the Raikot area. Charges include sections 106(1) for causing death by rash or negligent acts, 281 for rash driving on a public way, and 324(4) for mischief-related offenses under the BNS.
A police official reiterated that preliminary findings suggest negligent driving by the accused. This allegedly caused the Thar to jump the median and collide with the victims' car. The accused, who is injured, will face arrest soon as the investigation continues.
