Tragic Accident in Delhi as Teen's Gun Demonstration Turns Deadly
In a heartbreaking incident in Delhi, an 18-year-old teenager allegedly accidentally shot and killed his mother while showing off an illegal country-made pistol. The tragedy unfolded on Monday night at the Valmiki Mandir JJ settlement in Pant Nagar, near Jangpura, sending shockwaves through the local community.

The Lajpat Nagar police station received a PCR call from Moolchand Hospital at 10:39 pm, alerting them that a woman with a gunshot wound had been brought in dead. Police swiftly identified the victim as Sumati, aged 37, who worked as a domestic help in various households. According to South East DCP Hemant Tiwari, the teen had procured the illegal firearm from an individual in Ashram. While demonstrating the weapon to his mother, it accidentally discharged, striking her in the face and resulting in her immediate death.
The accused teenager has been apprehended by authorities. He cooperated with the police, leading them to a nearby drain where he had discarded the firearm after the incident. An FIR was registered on Tuesday under the charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act. Police are actively working to trace the supplier of the weapon to prevent further such incidents.

Sumati is survived by her husband, Chotu, who works as a daily-wage gardener, and their three children, including an 11-year-old girl. The family, already struggling with financial hardships, now faces an unimaginable loss.
