Ujjain's Tarana Town Maintains Calm After Recent Clashes, Commercial Activity Remains Limited
In the aftermath of recent disturbances, the town of Tarana in Ujjain district witnessed a peaceful Saturday with no incidents of violence, vandalism, or stone-pelting reported throughout the day. This calm prevailed despite the continued closure of most shops across the town, even as authorities maintained heavy police deployment to ensure security and stability.
Administration Reports Normalcy and Appeals for Business Resumption
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Brijesh Saxena confirmed that the situation in Tarana was completely peaceful on Saturday. He stated, "Citizens are complying with the prohibitory orders that have been implemented. The overall situation in the town is now normal and showing consistent improvement." The SDM made a direct appeal to local shopkeepers, urging them to reopen their establishments while assuring them that the administration had made comprehensive security arrangements to protect businesses and residents alike.
Despite these assurances and appeals from officials, only a limited number of shops chose to open their doors for business. By the afternoon hours, even the shops located at the busy Tarana bus stand had closed, reflecting the cautious approach of local merchants following the recent unrest.
Background: Thursday's Clashes Prompted Security Measures
The current security situation stems from clashes between two groups that occurred on Thursday, which resulted in several incidents of arson and stone-pelting. These violent exchanges left multiple persons injured and prompted the district administration to implement prohibitory orders while deploying substantial police forces throughout the town to prevent further escalation.
Healthcare Services Continue Uninterrupted
Block Medical Officer Dr. Pramod Argal reported that the community health center in Tarana remained fully operational despite the tense situation. "Patients who visited the OPD during the morning hours received proper medical treatment. We attended to individuals suffering from common ailments such as cold, cough, and fever, though the patient turnout was relatively low compared to normal days," Dr. Argal explained, highlighting that essential healthcare services continued without disruption.
Police Maintain Vigilance and Take Action Against Offenders
Assistant Superintendent of Police Guruvar Prasad Parashar detailed the security measures being implemented, noting that police personnel were conducting regular patrols across the town with security forces positioned at all key locations. "We are adopting a strict approach toward anyone attempting to spread unrest or disrupt peace. Approximately 18 individuals have been taken into custody as part of our efforts to maintain order," the ASP stated.
He further explained that authorities were reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved in Thursday's violent incidents, with appropriate legal action being taken against identified perpetrators.
Legal Proceedings Advance as Case Numbers Increase
According to Tarana Police Station in-charge RNS Bhadauria, six accused individuals involved in the assault case were presented before a judicial magistrate on Saturday. The magistrate subsequently granted a two-day police remand for these suspects, allowing investigators additional time for questioning and evidence collection.
In related developments, two additional cases have been registered over the past two days for activities related to spreading unrest. This brings the total number of cases registered in connection with the recent disturbances to five separate investigations, indicating the comprehensive legal response being pursued by authorities.
The overall scenario in Tarana reflects a delicate balance between restored calm and continued caution, with law enforcement maintaining a visible presence while the commercial sector demonstrates hesitancy in returning to normal operations despite official assurances of adequate security measures.
