SUV on Test Drive Crashes into Multiple Vehicles Before Plunging into Deep Pit in Thane
A dramatic accident unfolded in Thane's Pachpakhadi area on Tuesday when an SUV, taken out for a test drive, lost control and caused a chain of collisions before nosediving into a 30ft deep pit filled with slush. The incident resulted in injuries to three occupants and significant damage to multiple vehicles.
Sequence of Events in the Chaotic Crash
The SUV first crashed into a parked auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles, then rammed through the barricades of a nearby construction site. The vehicle ultimately plunged into a 30ft deep excavation pit, which was filled with muddy slush, leading to a harrowing scene for bystanders.
Injuries and Immediate Response
The three occupants injured in the crash have been identified as Priya Paswan (36) and Mithilesh Paswan (48), both residents of Kalyan, along with Chetan Deshmukh (30), a staffer from the car showroom. Authorities have not yet determined who was driving the SUV at the time of the accident.
Yasin Tadvi, the in-charge of the Thane disaster management cell, reported that the deployment of airbags upon impact played a crucial role in preventing more serious injuries. "Priya sustained head and waist injuries and required hospitalization. The other two individuals suffered only minor injuries," Tadvi stated.
Damage Assessment and Police Investigation
Vishal Dengale, a civic conservancy staffer who was among the first responders at the scene, described the SUV as having overturned and sustained major structural damage. The parked auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles involved in the initial collision were also significantly damaged.
