Surat Revenue Official Found Dead in Apparent Suicide at Residence

Police in Surat are investigating the death of a woman revenue official who was found hanging at her home on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Himisha Patel, a 35-year-old deputy mamlatdar serving in Olpad taluka of Surat district.

Discovery of the Body

On Monday morning, Himisha Patel's husband Ketan Patel waited for her to join him for their commute to work. Ketan Patel, who also works as a deputy mamlatdar, expected his wife to come out of their bedroom as usual.

When she did not appear, their domestic help knocked on the bedroom door. Getting no response, Ketan Patel and some neighbors forced the door open. They discovered Himisha Patel hanging inside the room.

The family immediately contacted the Rander police station. A police team arrived quickly at the scene. Officers sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police Investigation Underway

Rander police inspector R L Chaudhary provided details about the case. He confirmed that both Himisha and Ketan Patel had worked as talatis earlier in their careers. In 2023, both received promotions to deputy mamlatdar positions.

The couple served in different departments within Olpad taluka. Inspector Chaudhary stated that police would record statements from family members and other relatives as part of their investigation.

No formal police complaint has been filed in connection with the incident. The Patel family includes two children, according to police sources.

Background of the Deceased

Himisha Patel lived with her family in the Rander area of Surat. She had built a career in the revenue department, progressing from talati to deputy mamlatdar. Her husband followed a similar career path within the same administrative system.

The police investigation continues as authorities work to understand the circumstances surrounding her death. Forensic evidence and witness statements will help determine what happened.
