Surat Teenager Files Police Complaint After Online Gaming Friendship Turns Sour
A distressing case has emerged from Surat, where a teenage girl has lodged a formal police complaint against a 19-year-old man from Kerala, accusing him of sexual intercourse by deceitful means after she became pregnant. The Puna police in Surat have swiftly arrested the accused, who hails from Palakkad district in Kerala, bringing this troubling saga to light.
Online Gaming Connection Leads to Real-World Consequences
According to detailed police reports, the two individuals first crossed paths approximately one year ago while engaging in the popular online multiplayer game Free Fire. During their virtual gameplay, the girl encountered another player using the username "Astro." After a brief initial interaction within the game, they decided to exchange their Instagram IDs and personal phone numbers, subsequently beginning regular communication outside the gaming platform.
The teenage girl had been residing in Kerala for the past fifteen years alongside her mother, brother, and sister-in-law, completing her education up to Class 12 in that state. Her mother relocated to Surat around seven months ago following a divorce, marking a significant change in their family dynamics.
Deceit and Broken Promises Alleged
As their online relationship progressed, the accused eventually disclosed his real name to the girl, though they continued to utilize various usernames during their Free Fire sessions. Police investigations reveal that the girl initially hesitated to enter into a romantic relationship with the man due to their differing religious backgrounds. However, authorities state that he allegedly persuaded her by making persistent promises of marriage, overcoming her initial reservations.
The situation escalated dramatically in February 2026 when the accused allegedly took the girl to a hotel where they engaged in sexual relations. Merely one month later, the teenager discovered she was pregnant and immediately confronted the man, demanding that he honor his earlier marriage promises.
Refusal and Police Intervention
Instead of agreeing to marry her as promised, police reports indicate the accused refused and instead pressured her to undergo an abortion. When he continued to insist on this course of action, the distraught girl demanded that he move to Surat and marry her there in an attempt to salvage the situation.
Puna police inspector V. M. Desai provided crucial details about the case's development: "Approximately two weeks ago, both the girl and the accused traveled to Surat and began living with her mother. However, when he persistently refused to proceed with marriage despite the pregnancy, she felt compelled to approach law enforcement authorities and file an official complaint."
Legal Action and Arrest
Following her complaint, police have registered a formal case against the 19-year-old Kerala native under Section 69 of the Indian Penal Code, which specifically addresses sexual intercourse by deceitful means. Inspector Desai confirmed that authorities have arrested the accused based on the serious allegations and evidence presented in this complex case that bridges online interactions with real-world consequences.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of how virtual connections formed through online gaming platforms can sometimes lead to dangerous real-life situations, particularly when trust is established and then betrayed. The Surat police continue their investigation while the legal process moves forward regarding these serious allegations of deception and exploitation.
