Surat: Tragic Patricide Over Autorickshaw Money Demand in Pandesara
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the community, a 27-year-old man, identified as Jagdeep Paswan, has been accused of brutally killing his own father in the Pandesara area of Surat. The tragic event unfolded after the father, Jaywant Paswan, refused to provide his son with Rs 2 lakh to purchase an autorickshaw, leading to a violent confrontation that resulted in Jaywant's death.
Background of the Family Dispute
According to police reports and the complaint filed by the elder son, Nitesh Paswan (33), the family had been living in Surat for the past 25 years. Jaywant, who worked for a company called Colourtex, had retired just eight months prior and had received a retirement corpus of Rs 5 lakh. In a gesture of support, Jaywant had earlier given Nitesh Rs 2.8 lakh to buy a rickshaw, enabling him to earn a livelihood in Bihar with his wife and four children.
Jagdeep, however, felt entitled to similar financial assistance and demanded Rs 2 lakh for an autorickshaw. His father, aware that Jagdeep had left his wife in Bihar and was not actively earning, was reluctant to provide the funds, setting the stage for a deadly altercation.
The Fatal Video Call and Assault
The incident reached its climax on Friday when Jaywant called Nitesh to request money for rent payment. Nitesh, in turn, instructed Jagdeep to handle the matter. Later that afternoon, Jagdeep initiated a video call with Nitesh, during which he launched a vicious attack on their father. Witnessed live by Nitesh, the assault involved punching and slamming Jaywant's head against a wall.
With a friend, Lalu, present at the scene, Nitesh urgently pleaded for intervention to save his father. However, the call was abruptly disconnected, leaving Nitesh in a state of distress and uncertainty about his father's condition.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
On Saturday, after repeated failed attempts to contact his father, Nitesh learned that Jaywant's health had severely deteriorated. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The tragic news prompted Nitesh to fly from Patna to Surat, where he formally lodged a complaint against his younger brother, Jagdeep.
The Pandesara police have since arrested Jagdeep and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. A police official stated, "Jagdeep assaulted his father due to the refusal of money, leading to his death. We are probing all aspects of this case to ensure justice is served." The community remains in shock over this heart-wrenching incident of familial violence.
