Surat Man Stabbed to Death, Father Injured in Altercation Sparked by Children's Dispute

A tragic incident unfolded in Surat on Sunday, resulting in the death of a 30-year-old man and injuries to his elderly father. The violence erupted from a seemingly minor dispute between children playing in a housing society at Kosad Awas, escalating into a fatal confrontation that has left the community in shock.

From Children's Quarrel to Deadly Violence

According to police reports and a complaint filed by Shabana Shaikh (36), the sister-in-law of the deceased Farid Bambawala, the incident began innocuously. Her six-year-old son accidentally hit the daughter of their neighbour, Sadab Shaikh, while the children were playing together. What started as a childish argument quickly spiraled into a heated quarrel between the women of the two families.

The situation deteriorated further when Sadab's brothers, Azad and Saddam, arrived at the scene and joined the altercation. In an attempt to calm the escalating tensions, Farid Bambawala and his 68-year-old father, Aziz Bambawala, intervened to pacify both sides.

Fatal Stabbing and Multiple Injuries

Instead of de-escalating, the confrontation turned violent when Sadab, Azad, and Saddam allegedly assaulted Farid and his father. The violence reached its peak when a fourth brother, Siraz, arrived armed with a knife. Police allege that Siraz stabbed Farid Bambawala twice in the back during the altercation.

The attack didn't stop there. Siraz also allegedly turned the knife on Aziz Bambawala and Shabana Shaikh, leaving multiple victims in his wake. All three injured individuals were immediately rushed to SMIMER Hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Hospitalization and Police Response

At the hospital, doctors examined Farid Bambawala and declared him brought dead. His father, Aziz Bambawala, sustained significant injuries and remains hospitalized, undergoing treatment for his wounds. Shabana Shaikh also received medical attention for injuries sustained during the violent episode.

Farid Bambawala, who worked as an auto-rickshaw driver, was married to Shabana's sister, adding another layer of family tragedy to this already devastating incident. The Amroli police have taken swift action in response to the crime.

Arrests Made, One Accused Still at Large

Police Inspector J B Vanar confirmed that three of the four accused have been arrested in connection with the murder and assault. Those taken into custody include Sadab Shaikh, Saddam, and Siraz—the alleged knife-wielder who delivered the fatal blows. However, one accused, Azad, remains absconding, and police are actively searching for him.

The case highlights how quickly minor disputes can escalate into deadly violence, particularly when multiple family members become involved in confrontations. The Surat police continue their investigation while the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event that began with children at play.
