Surat Iftar Tragedy: Cousin Kills 20-Year-Old Over Comment During Family Meal
A peaceful iftar gathering in Surat turned into a scene of horror on Wednesday evening when a 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his own cousin. The incident occurred in the Rander area as approximately 15 family members had gathered to break their Ramadan fast together.
Deadly Argument Erupts Over Mother's Comment
According to Rander police inspector R J Chaudhary, the victim, Sultan Ahmed Shaikh, had traveled from Malegaon to visit his maternal uncle, Aminuddin Shaikh, in Rander. He was accompanied by his mother, Nazma, and his sister. The family reunion included his maternal aunt and her family as well.
The tragic sequence of events began when the accused, Allarakha Shaikh, 22, made a derogatory comment about Nazma during the iftar meal. This remark deeply offended Sultan, who immediately confronted his cousin. What started as a verbal argument quickly escalated in front of the horrified family members.
Seething with anger, Allarakha retreated to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and returned to stab Sultan twice in the chest before anyone could intervene. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Sultan succumbed to his injuries and could not be saved.
Swift Police Action Prevents Escape
After committing the crime, Allarakha packed his belongings and was preparing to flee to Malegaon. However, Rander police acted swiftly based on technical surveillance and human intelligence, apprehending him before he could leave the city.
The investigation is currently underway, initiated by a formal complaint filed by Nazma, the victim's grieving mother. Police are examining all aspects of the case, including the exact nature of the comment that triggered the fatal confrontation and any previous tensions between the cousins.
This tragic incident highlights how family disputes can turn deadly in moments of heightened emotion. The iftar meal, traditionally a time of community and reflection during Ramadan, became the backdrop for an unimaginable family tragedy that has left the entire community in shock.
