Surat Girl Rescued After Intensive Four-Day Police Operation
In a dramatic conclusion to a relentless search, a four-year-old girl who was kidnapped from the Amroli area of Surat has been safely rescued. The child was allegedly used for begging by the kidnapper before police apprehended him in Ahmedabad, capping a massive four-day investigation involving over 100 officers.
Operation Muskan: A Coordinated Police Effort
The incident began on April 2 when the girl was abducted while playing in a garden along the banks of the Tapi River in Amroli. After her parents' initial efforts to locate her failed, they approached the police the following day. Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot promptly launched Operation Muskan, mobilizing significant resources to find the missing child.
The operation formed multiple specialized teams comprising five police inspectors, nine sub-inspectors, and approximately 110 constables. Their investigation quickly focused on CCTV footage from various locations, which proved crucial in tracking the suspect's movements.

Police analysis of surveillance footage revealed the accused, later identified as Pappu Khadiya (30), walking with the child on a road. Further tracking showed he had traveled to Utran railway station and then proceeded to Sayan railway station. After getting off at Sayan, he wandered in the village for several hours before returning to the station, where his trail initially went cold.
Undeterred, investigators expanded their search across Gujarat, alerting authorities at all 43 railway stations between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. The crime branch also coordinated with police forces in Maharashtra and Rajasthan, while engaging the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), railway employees, porters, auto drivers, and food stall operators.
A critical component of the investigation involved circulating CCTV screenshots of Khadiya with the abducted girl through WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Karanraj Vaghela emphasized that this widespread digital outreach played a pivotal role in the case.
Arrest and Rescue in Ahmedabad
The extensive efforts culminated on Monday when a social media user provided a crucial tip to police, reporting that they had spotted the man from the footage with the girl in Narol, Ahmedabad. Acting on this information, police swiftly apprehended Khadiya and rescued the child from the Narol area.
According to police officials, Khadiya allegedly abducted the girl with the intention of using her to seek alms. He reportedly told investigators that he earned his livelihood through labor work and, lacking money to feed his two sons, believed having the girl with him would make it easier to obtain money and food while begging. Police are continuing to investigate whether there were any additional motives behind the abduction.
