Meerut Anti-Corruption Team Nabs 2 Muradnagar Cops in Rs 50,000 Bribe Sting
Sub-Inspector, Constable Arrested for Bribe in Dowry Case

In a significant crackdown on police corruption, an anti-corruption unit from Meerut executed a successful sting operation this Saturday, leading to the arrest of a sub-inspector and a constable from Muradnagar police station in Ghaziabad. The officers were allegedly caught in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.

The Bribe Demand for Dowry Case Manipulation

The case originates from a dowry harassment complaint filed on October 12 at the Muradnagar police station. The complaint was registered against a Hapur resident named Rajneesh Tyagi. The investigation was being led by the in-charge Sub-Inspector, Priya Singh, who was operating from the Pink Booth.

According to the official complaint, SI Priya Singh allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 2 lakh from Tyagi. In return, she promised to ensure that the names of Tyagi's parents, Kusum and Sanjeev, were excluded from the official chargesheet in the dowry case. The complainant claimed that Constable Shahid acted as the intermediary for this illegal transaction. Tyagi further alleged that he was threatened with arrest if he failed to pay the demanded amount.

The Sting Operation Unfolds

After negotiations, the alleged bribe amount was reportedly reduced to Rs 50,000. Instead of complying, Rajneesh Tyagi approached the Anti-Corruption Department's unit in Meerut. A team led by Inspector Krishnapal Singh swiftly planned a trap.

The officials provided the complainant with currency notes that had been treated with a special chemical substance. Tyagi was instructed to hand over the marked money at the police station as per the corrupt officers' demand. Police officials stated that as soon as the money changed hands, the anti-corruption team moved in and detained both the sub-inspector and the constable.

Departmental Action and Ongoing Probe

Following the dramatic arrest, both police personnel have been suspended from duty. ACP (Masuri) Lipi Nagayach confirmed that a thorough departmental inquiry is currently underway. She added that further legal and administrative action will be determined upon the completion of this internal investigation.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within law enforcement and the exploitation of individuals involved in sensitive legal cases like dowry harassment. The use of a meticulously planned sting operation by the anti-corruption wing demonstrates a proactive approach to tackling such malpractice.
