19-Year-Old Student Arrested with Illegal Pistol at Lucknow Metro Station

In a significant security incident, a 19-year-old student was apprehended with an illegal country-made pistol at the KD Singh Babu stadium Metro station in Lucknow's Hazratganj area. The arrest occurred during routine security checks on Tuesday, with police officially confirming the details on Wednesday.

Security Screening Leads to Discovery

According to police officials, the arrest unfolded when security personnel flagged a suspicious bag during X-ray screening at the Metro station. Metro security staff immediately alerted local police, prompting a swift response from the Hazratganj police station team that arrived at the scene and took the youth into custody.

Vikram Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Hazratganj police station, provided details about the operation. The security personnel acted promptly upon detecting the suspicious item during screening, he noted, emphasizing the coordinated response between Metro security and police forces.

Weapon Details and Accused Identification

Police recovered a 0.315-bore illegal pistol from the student's bag during the security check. The accused was identified as Akshat Kanaujia, a resident of Vrindavan colony in Lucknow's Dilkusha area. Authorities have registered a case against him under section 3/25 of the Arms Act at Hazratganj police station.

During preliminary questioning, Kanaujia made a surprising claim to investigators. He stated that he found the pistol near Janeshwar Mishra park and simply carried it with him when he boarded the Metro, unaware of the serious consequences of possessing such a weapon.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

The First Information Report (FIR) in this case was filed based on the complaint of sub-inspector Ankit Kumar. Police officials confirmed that the investigation is currently ongoing as they work to uncover more details about the incident.

Authorities have revealed several important next steps in the legal process:

  1. The accused will be produced before the court for judicial proceedings
  2. Police are conducting thorough background checks to determine if Kanaujia has any prior criminal record
  3. Investigators are examining potential connections to illegal arms networks
  4. Security protocols at Metro stations are being reviewed following this incident

Security Implications and Public Safety

This incident highlights the effectiveness of security screening measures at public transportation facilities in Lucknow. The prompt detection of the weapon demonstrates how routine security checks can prevent potential threats before they escalate into more serious situations.

Police officials emphasized that such security protocols are crucial for maintaining public safety in crowded urban spaces like Metro stations. The coordinated response between different security agencies proved effective in this case, leading to the swift apprehension of the individual carrying the illegal weapon.

As the investigation continues, authorities are reminding citizens about the serious legal consequences of possessing illegal firearms. The Arms Act contains strict provisions against unauthorized weapon possession, and violations can lead to significant penalties under Indian law.
