Local residents first witnessed a stray dog carrying what appeared to be a small body in its jaws. Upon realizing the horrifying truth, they chased the animal, which then dropped the infant's body and fled from the scene. The residents quickly recovered the remains, making a disturbing observation: the body was covered with soil on all sides, indicating it had been buried at an earlier time.
Police Investigation and Post-Mortem
The body was subsequently transferred to the mortuary at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) in Shimla for a detailed post-mortem examination. Speaking on the case, Sub-Inspector Vilochan Singh, the Station House Officer of Dhalli police station, provided crucial details. He noted that the umbilical cord was still intact, suggesting the child was either a very recent newborn or a stillborn.
