In a fresh crackdown on illegal arms and ammunition stockpiles in Sandeshkhali, a team of the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday recovered a massive cache of weapons and ammunition from the Nazat area, once considered a stronghold of jailed former Trinamool neta Sheikh Shahjahan.
Details of the Raid
Acting on intelligence inputs, STF personnel conducted a raid at Kharir Pukur Par in Nazat and unearthed 16 firearms along with nearly 2,000 rounds of ammunition on the banks of a water body. Police said search operations were continuing in the area to ascertain if more arms were hidden nearby.
Investigation Underway
According to investigators, efforts are underway to identify those responsible for storing the weapons and determine the purpose behind maintaining such a large stockpile. The operation is part of a broader drive to dismantle illegal arms networks in the region.
