SSB Intercepts Suspicious Vehicle at Nepal Border, Seizes Cash and Detains Five
Personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal made a significant interception at the India-Nepal border on Monday. The action unfolded at the Rupaidihā Checkpost in Uttar Pradesh.
Blue-Beacon Vehicle Raises Alarm
Around noon, SSB jawans noticed an Innova Crysta approaching the border crossing. The vehicle immediately drew attention because it was fitted with a blue beacon and a hooter. Security forces decided to stop the car for a routine check as it came from the Indian side.
Occupants Attempt to Intimidate Security Personnel
During initial questioning, the five young men inside the vehicle tried to browbeat the SSB personnel. They claimed to hold senior secretariat-level positions. This aggressive behavior only heightened the jawans' suspicions, prompting a more thorough inspection.
Substantial Recovery from Vehicle and Occupants
A comprehensive search yielded several concerning items:
- An electronic chip device of unknown purpose
- Cash amounting to Rs 2,17,480
- Multiple high-end mobile phones including iPhone, Samsung, Oppo and Vivo models
- Various personal documents including ATM cards, credit cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and driving licenses
Five Lucknow Residents Taken Into Custody
The detained individuals were identified as Dharmendra Singh, Shubham Bajpai, Anmol Yadav, Sachin Singh and Swapnil Sahay. All five are residents of Lucknow. When questioned, they failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for possessing the substantial cash or their intended travel to Nepal.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
Rupaidihā police station in-charge Ramesh Rawat confirmed the developments. The SSB handed over the accused, the vehicle and all seized items to local police for further legal action. Authorities registered a case against all five individuals under Section 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating by personation.
The accused were produced before a court and remanded to police custody. Investigators are now working to determine several crucial aspects of the case.
Ongoing Investigation
Police stated that further investigation is actively underway. Authorities are focusing on three main areas:
- The source of the recovered cash
- The purpose and function of the electronic chip device
- Whether the detained youths were part of a larger network involved in illegal cross-border activities
The use of a blue-beacon vehicle in this incident has particularly raised questions about possible impersonation of government officials. Border security remains on high alert following this interception.
