Tragic Pune Accident: Speeding Cement Mixer Truck Kills Young Woman, Violates Heavy Vehicle Ban

A horrific road accident in Pune's Chikhali area has resulted in the death of a young woman and left another injured, after a speeding cement mixer truck collided head-on with their two-wheeler. The incident occurred on Friday morning at Diamond Chowk in the Kudalwadi locality, highlighting grave concerns over road safety and traffic regulation enforcement.

Details of the Fatal Collision

According to police reports, the deceased has been identified as Vaishnavi Sujit Dighe, aged 22. She was riding the two-wheeler with her relative, Seema Bajrang Dhamale, 30, who sustained injuries in the crash. The collision took place around 11 AM when the cement mixer truck, allegedly traveling at high speed, struck the two-wheeler from the front.

The impact of the crash was devastating, causing both women to be thrown onto the road. Tragically, the truck then ran over them. Vaishnavi succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Seema was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Her condition is reported to be under observation.

Legal Action and Investigation

In response to the incident, Amol Thosar, 36, a family member of Seema and a resident of Somatne, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Chikhali police station in Pimpri Chinchwad. The police have arrested the truck driver, B P Jadhav, 41, from Charholi.

Jadhav faces serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:

  • Section 281: Rash driving or riding on a public way
  • Section 105: Culpable homicide not amounting to murder
  • Sections 125(b) and 125(a): Related to negligent acts
  • Section 324(4): Causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means

Additionally, sections of the Motor Vehicle Act have been invoked. A press release issued on Sunday confirmed that the truck was being operated on a road where heavy vehicles are explicitly banned, raising questions about compliance with traffic rules.

Ongoing Probe and Community Impact

Assistant Sub-Inspector Madhukar Pansare, the investigation officer, stated that the accused driver's blood samples have been collected to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Further investigations are underway to ascertain the full circumstances leading to this tragic event.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, underscoring the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly regarding banned heavy vehicles on specific roads. It also brings attention to the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in addressing road safety violations.

Authorities are urging citizens to adhere to traffic laws and report any violations to prevent such fatalities in the future. The case continues to develop as police delve deeper into the driver's history and the truck's compliance with regional transport norms.
