Birthday Celebration Ends in Tragedy as Speeding Truck Rams Car in Sonipat
A joyous birthday trip turned into a devastating tragedy on Friday when a speeding truck violently collided with a stationary car on National Highway-44 near a roadside dhaba in Haryana's Sonipat district. The horrific accident claimed the lives of two sisters and left four other occupants, including a child, critically injured.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the victims were traveling from Tilak Nagar in Delhi to Murthal to celebrate the birthday of a young child named Vardaan. The car, bearing registration number HR51 BQ 9692, was occupied by six individuals: Mandeep Kaur (27), her elder sister Manpreet Kaur (38) from Amritsar, along with Sarvjeet Kaur, Jagjeet Kaur, Sameer, and the birthday child.
The family had momentarily stopped their vehicle in the service lane adjacent to the dhaba when Sameer exited to purchase snacks. At that precise moment, a speeding truck approaching from behind allegedly lost control, crashed through the service-lane railing, and slammed directly into the parked car with tremendous force.
Severe Impact and Immediate Aftermath
The impact of the collision was so catastrophic that the truck dragged the car for approximately 100 meters, leaving the vehicle completely mangled and unrecognizable. Tragically, Mandeep Kaur and Manpreet Kaur succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the remaining four occupants sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.
Alert local residents rushed to the accident site and assisted in rescuing the trapped passengers from the wreckage. All injured individuals were promptly shifted to Sonipat Civil Hospital, where they remain under intensive medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased sisters were sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation process.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Police confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning his vehicle. Authorities have registered a case against the unidentified driver and have formed special teams to trace and apprehend the suspect. Preliminary investigations strongly indicate that overspeeding and negligent driving were the primary causes of this tragic incident.
Further investigation is currently underway to determine all contributing factors and circumstances surrounding the collision. This heartbreaking incident has once again highlighted critical road safety concerns on India's national highways, particularly regarding speeding commercial vehicles and the vulnerability of stationary vehicles in service lanes.
