Sitapur Family Seeks Government Help After Son Allegedly Killed in Riyadh Missile Strike
A family from Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh has made a heartbreaking claim that their 26-year-old son, Ravi Gopal, was allegedly killed in a missile strike in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. This tragic incident is said to have occurred amid the ongoing tensions and conflict between Iran and Israel, leaving the family devastated and urgently seeking assistance from the Indian government to bring his body back home.
Family's Account of the Tragic Incident
According to family members, Ravi Gopal, a resident of Baghain village under the Mahmoodabad police station limits, had been working in Riyadh since September 18, 2025. He was employed at a plastic factory in the Saudi capital and served as the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes his father Ravneet, mother Baijanti, wife Ritu, and a four-year-old son.
The family described the events leading to the alleged tragedy. On the night of March 18, Ravi was speaking to his wife over the phone around 8:20 PM Indian time. His elder brother Manmohan recounted, "He called and was talking normally. After some time, the call suddenly disconnected. We heard a loud explosion in the background before the phone went dead."
Following this, repeated attempts to contact Ravi failed as his phone remained switched off. The next day, on March 19, a friend informed the family that Ravi had been killed in a missile attack in Riyadh. This news plunged the family into utter shock and grief.
Background and Family's Plea for Assistance
Ravi Gopal had first traveled to Saudi Arabia after his marriage in 2020, seeking employment opportunities to support his family. He returned briefly to India in 2025 for his sister's wedding before leaving again for work. His brother works in Lucknow and supports his own family, making Ravi the primary earning member of his household.
In the wake of this tragedy, the grieving family has made a desperate appeal to the Indian government for assistance. They are seeking help to repatriate Ravi's body to India, a process that requires official intervention and coordination with Saudi authorities.
Administration's Response and Lack of Official Confirmation
However, the Sitapur district administration has stated that they have not yet received any official information about the incident. Sitapur DM Rajaganapathy R told TOI, "We do not have any official confirmation of Ravi's death in Riyadh due to a missile attack. We have asked the family to give us details in writing, which will be forwarded to the government and further to the embassy of Saudi Arabia."
This lack of official confirmation adds to the family's distress, as they await clarity and support in navigating the complex procedures involved in such international incidents. The situation highlights the challenges faced by families of Indian workers abroad during times of geopolitical conflict.
