Sitamarhi Road Tragedy: Teen Killed, Bystanders Loot Fish Instead of Helping

A horrific road accident in Bihar's Sitamarhi district on Friday revealed a shocking display of public apathy. Bystanders ignored a fatally injured teenager and rushed to loot fish from the crashed vehicle.

Fatal Collision Claims Young Life

The incident occurred near Jhajhihat village under the Pupri police station area. Ritesh Kumar, a 17-year-old Class XI student known as Golu, was traveling to his morning coaching classes when a speeding pickup truck struck him.

The impact proved immediately fatal. Ritesh, son of Santosh Das, died on the spot. The violent collision generated loud screams from people in the vicinity.

Disturbing Scenes of Opportunistic Looting

As the victim's family arrived and plunged into grief, a disturbing scene unfolded just meters away. The pickup van involved in the accident had been transporting fish, which scattered across the road after the crash.

Instead of assisting the injured student, calling emergency services, or alerting authorities, numerous bystanders converged on the spot. They began systematically looting the spilled fish.

While Ritesh's body remained on the roadside, witnesses observed people filling sacks and carrying away armfuls of fish. The contrast between the grieving family and the opportunistic looters created a deeply unsettling tableau.

Police Intervention and Investigation

Personnel from the Pupri police station eventually arrived after receiving information about the incident. Officers dispersed the crowd and secured the area.

The police recovered the victim's body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Authorities also seized the pickup truck involved in the collision.

Pupri station house officer Ramshankar Kumar provided details about the case. "The victim was heading to his coaching classes when the accident occurred," he stated. "We have seized the vehicle, but the driver managed to escape. We are actively tracing him for necessary legal action."

This tragic incident raises serious questions about road safety and public responsibility in the region. The complete disregard for human life displayed by those focused on material gain has left the community shaken.
