Singrauli Bank Heist: Police Announce Rs 50,000 Reward, One Suspect Arrested
In a dramatic response to a brazen daylight robbery, police in Singrauli have announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to the arrest of five armed men responsible for a heist at a Bank of Maharashtra branch. The announcement came on Saturday, just a day after the incident, as authorities revealed that one suspect has already been apprehended with a portion of the stolen cash and jewellery.
Details of the Daylight Robbery
The robbery occurred between 12:50 pm and 1:05 pm on Friday at the Baidhan branch on Vindhyanagar Road in Singrauli. Armed with pistols and country-made firearms, the gang stormed the bank, holding staff and customers hostage before fleeing after firing a shot to instill fear. They made off with over Rs 20 lakh in cash and pledged gold estimated at 6-7 kg, linked to loans worth approximately Rs 5.5 crore.
Police Response and Investigation
Acting swiftly, Director General of Police Kailash Makwana announced the reward, underscoring the seriousness with which the state is treating the incident. Senior officers, including the DGP and SDGP of the Rewa zone, rushed to the scene, reviewed the crime site, and held a late-night meeting with local police. They directed intensified searches, tighter checkpoints, and coordinated action across district and state borders.
Sustained efforts through the night, combined with technical surveillance, led to the first breakthrough: the arrest of one suspect along with lakhs in cash and jewellery, believed to be part of the looted property. Sources indicate that raids are ongoing to trace the remaining gang members, with multiple teams deployed across neighbouring states, particularly Bihar, where some leads have emerged.
