Silchar Police Intercept Major Illegal Liquor Consignment
Acting on specific intelligence, Silchar police made a significant breakthrough on Sunday. They seized a truck transporting a large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) illegally. The vehicle was moving from Meghalaya towards Mizoram when authorities stopped it within the town limits of Silchar.
Massive Haul of Contraband Liquor
During a thorough search of the intercepted truck, police officers discovered 195 cartons of liquor. The consignment contained various popular brands, all being transported without any valid legal documents. This seizure points to a well-organized illegal supply network operating across state borders.
Two Arrests Made in Connection with Smuggling
Police arrested two individuals at the scene. The authorities identified the truck driver as Masum Ahmed Laskar, aged 24. His helper was Abdul Wahid Barbhuiya, who is just 17 years old. Both men hail from Katigorah in Cachar district.
The investigation revealed the liquor was part of an interstate smuggling operation. Police suspect this consignment was intended for illegal distribution in Mizoram. Officials emphasized the operation lacked proper authorization and violated multiple regulations.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Silchar police have initiated necessary legal action against the arrested individuals. Further investigation is currently underway to determine the exact source of this illegal liquor. Authorities are also working to identify the intended final destination and any other individuals involved in this smuggling network.
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal alcohol trafficking in the region. Police officials stated they remain vigilant against such interstate criminal activities that undermine state excise policies and regulations.
