Shivpuri: Rape Survivor Attempts Suicide, Alleges Harassment by Accused's Family
Shivpuri Woman Attempts Suicide After Rape Case

A 25-year-old woman from Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh, who had previously filed a rape case against the son of the local municipal council president, attempted to end her life on Wednesday. The survivor consumed a dangerous combination of approximately 45 sleeping pills and rat poison, citing severe mental harassment by the accused and his family as the reason for her drastic step.

A Cry for Help in a Suicide Note

Police officials confirmed that the woman left behind a detailed note, naming the son of the Shivpuri Municipal Council president. In this six-page document, which has been seized by investigators, she laid out a harrowing account of her ordeal. She alleged that she was forced into a relationship with the accused based on a false promise of marriage, a fact she claims his family was aware of and initially supported.

The situation turned traumatic when the family later arranged the accused's engagement to another woman. When the survivor objected, she faced abuse and threats. Her note explicitly holds the municipal council president, her husband, and their son responsible for driving her to this state of despair.

A Protracted Struggle for Justice

The woman's fight for justice began earlier this year when she lodged a formal rape complaint. After making repeated visits to the police, a First Information Report (FIR) was finally registered at the Kotwali police station on April 30. However, in a significant setback to her quest for justice, the accused managed to secure anticipatory bail from the Madhya Pradesh High Court roughly a month after the FIR was filed.

Her suicide note reveals further layers of alleged systemic failure and pressure. She claimed she was made to wait for hours at the police station before her complaint was even registered. Even after the case came to light, she faced immense pressure to settle the matter. The woman alleged that she was threatened and pressured to accept a financial settlement of Rs 50 lakh, which she refused.

Appeal to Top Leaders and Current Condition

In a poignant appeal, the survivor directly called for intervention from the highest levels of government. Her note includes appeals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to personally look into her case and ensure she gets justice.

Following her suicide attempt, her condition deteriorated rapidly due to the lethal cocktail of substances she ingested. She was immediately admitted to a medical college hospital, where she is currently undergoing intensive treatment under the close supervision of doctors.

The police have stated that the suicide note is currently in their custody. They have indicated that further legal action will be determined once the woman recovers and her formal statement can be recorded. The case continues to unfold, highlighting serious concerns about the treatment of survivors and the influence of power in the justice system.
