The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to take legal action against Atishi, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and former chief minister of Delhi. This significant decision emerged from the executive committee meeting of the SGPC, which convened in Amritsar on Friday.
Executive Committee Resolves for Strict Action
During the meeting, the executive committee members unanimously resolved to initiate strict legal proceedings against Atishi. They cited her alleged derogatory remarks about the Sikh Gurus as the primary reason for this move. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that the committee will pursue action against her for displaying what he described as a deplorable mindset.
Alleged Remarks Hurt Sikh Sentiments
Dhami emphasized that the alleged use of offensive language by an elected representative during a session of the Delhi legislative assembly deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. He stressed that such behavior from a public figure is unacceptable and warrants legal consequences. The SGPC aims to address this issue through the judicial system to uphold respect for Sikh religious figures.
Condemnation of Golden Temple Incident
In the same meeting, the SGPC chief also condemned a separate incident involving a youth at the Golden Temple. Dhami reported that the youth violated the maryada, the Sikh code of religious conduct, in the sarovar of the Golden Temple. He reiterated that the Golden Temple is a sacred site, and any act against its sanctity cannot be tolerated. Such incidents, he added, cause significant distress to the community.
Dhami made a heartfelt appeal to people of all faiths, urging them to strictly observe the maryada while paying obeisance at the Golden Temple. He called for mutual respect and adherence to religious protocols to maintain the temple's holiness.
Recognition of Student Achievements
Amidst these serious discussions, the SGPC also took a moment to appreciate positive news. The committee acknowledged the achievement of six students from the Nishchay Administrative Services Training Academy. This academy coaches Sikh students for competitive examinations, and these six students have successfully qualified the preliminary PCS examination. The SGPC commended their hard work and dedication, highlighting it as a proud moment for the community.
