Vigilance Bureau Nabs Senior Clerk in Angamaly for Accepting Bribe

In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has arrested a senior clerk working at the assistant labour office in Angamaly for allegedly accepting a bribe. The government official, identified as Suraj Narayanan, a resident of Puthenkurish, was apprehended red-handed in his office on Thursday afternoon.

Details of the Bribery Case

The incident revolves around the renewal of a labour licence for a private firm operating in Angamaly. According to VACB sources, Narayanan is accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500 to process the licence renewal. The complainant, who owns the firm, had initially applied online for the licence renewal at the assistant labour office located in the Angamaly Civil Station on December 31, 2025.

Despite making several visits to the office, the licence renewal was not completed, leading to frustration for the firm owner. Subsequently, on Thursday, Narayanan contacted the complainant to discuss the licence and explicitly demanded the bribe amount to expedite the process.

How the Trap Was Laid

Upon receiving the demand, the complainant promptly informed the Ernakulam vigilance deputy police superintendent about the situation. Following detailed instructions from the vigilance team, a trap was set up to monitor the official. The complainant handed over the cash as planned, and the vigilance team closely observed the proceedings.

At approximately 3 PM, Narayanan was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in his office. The entire operation was meticulously planned and executed to ensure concrete evidence against the accused.

The accused will be presented before the Muvattupuzha vigilance court, as confirmed by VACB sources.
