Swami Avimukteshwaranand Receives Death Threats in Varanasi
Swami Avimukteshwaranand, a prominent religious figure, has allegedly received death threats that ominously compare his potential fate to that of gangster Atiq Ahmed. The seer's media in-charge, Sanjay Pandey, has disclosed that several objectionable text messages were sent from a suspicious phone number to the official phone line of Jyotirmath on April 1.
Escalation to Voice Mail Threats
After the initial number was blocked, the situation escalated when two threatening voice messages were received via voice mail on April 6. Pandey elaborated that these messages contained not only abusive language but also explicit threats to kill the seer. In the audio recordings, the individual issuing the threats can be heard hurling abuses and menacingly stating that Swami Avimukteshwaranand would be eliminated in a manner similar to how Atiq Ahmed was killed.
Campaign and Tour Plans
It is noteworthy that the Shankaracharya is currently spearheading the "Gau Mata Rashtra Mata" campaign. He is scheduled to undertake an extensive tour across various Assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, which adds a layer of concern given the recent threats to his safety.
Police Response and Investigation
Inspector Bhelupur Sudhir Kumar Tripathi confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged by the disciples of the seer. The police are actively investigating the matter to identify the source of the threats and ensure the security of Swami Avimukteshwaranand. The investigation is being treated with urgency due to the serious nature of the threats and their reference to a high-profile criminal case.
The incident has raised alarms in Varanasi, highlighting potential security risks for religious leaders engaged in public campaigns. Authorities are urging vigilance and cooperation from the community as they work to resolve this threatening situation.
