Second Arrest Made in Thampanoor Police Officer Assault Case
Cantonment police in Thiruvananthapuram have apprehended another individual in connection with a violent attack on police officers who were responding to a public disturbance in the Thampanoor area. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into this serious incident.
Details of the Arrested Suspect
The arrested individual has been identified as Sibin, also known as Kichamani, a 19-year-old resident of Rajaji Nagar. He is formally listed as an accused in the case registered at the Cantonment police station. Following his detention, Sibin was presented before a judicial magistrate, who subsequently ordered his remand into judicial custody.
Recap of the Incident
The assault occurred on the evening of March 22, when police officers received reports of a group causing a public nuisance near the Muthumariamman temple in Thampanoor. According to official statements, the group was allegedly shouting obscenities and creating a disturbance on the road, prompting a response from law enforcement.
Grade ASI Sreejith and civil police officer Ashiq arrived at the scene and instructed the group to disperse. Instead of complying, the individuals reportedly turned violent and attacked the officers. The police have stated that Sibin, along with two other individuals named Abhiram and Suraj, all hailing from Rajaji Nagar, were involved in physically assaulting the responding officers.
Ongoing Investigation and Previous Arrest
This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of one of the other accused, Suraj, who is currently in judicial remand. Police authorities have confirmed that efforts are actively underway to locate and arrest the remaining suspect, Abhiram, who is currently absconding.
The Cantonment police have emphasized that the investigation is progressing and further arrests are anticipated as they continue to gather evidence and pursue all leads related to the case. The assault on police officers performing their duty is being treated with utmost seriousness, and the force is committed to ensuring all perpetrators are brought to justice.
