Villagers Block Highway, Attack Police Over Boy's Murder in Saran
Angry villagers in Bihar's Saran district blocked a national highway and attacked police personnel on Tuesday. They protested what they called police inaction in the murder investigation of an 11-year-old boy.
Boy Goes Missing, Body Found Days Later
The incident centers on Shivam Kumar, a Class V student at Mandrauli Middle School. He was the only son in a family with seven sisters. Shivam went missing on the evening of December 31, 2025, while playing near his house in Mandrauli village.
His family immediately filed a missing person report at the Amnour police station. However, police made no immediate progress in the case.
On January 11, villagers discovered Shivam's body in some bushes about 500 meters from his home. His younger sister, Moni, identified him by his clothes. The boy's head was crushed, but investigators found no blood stains at the site. This led police to suspect the murder occurred elsewhere, with the body dumped to destroy evidence.
Frustration Boils Over Into Highway Blockade
The family and local villagers grew increasingly frustrated. They accused police of doing nothing even two days after finding the body. This sense of injustice fueled widespread outrage in the community.
On Tuesday, villagers including the victim's family took their protest to NH-722 near Bheldi Chowk. They blocked the highway, raising loud slogans against the police. Their action caused severe traffic jams stretching for kilometers on both sides of the road. The protest lasted for about an hour.
Peaceful Protest Turns Violent
When police arrived to calm the situation, the crowd turned aggressive. Protesters pushed officers and began pelting stones at the police team. Some villagers climbed onto police vehicles, smashing windowpanes with sticks. They even overturned one vehicle.
The situation escalated quickly. Police had to use mild force to disperse the violent mob and restore order.
Officials Promise Swift Investigation
DSP Naresh Paswan and Sadar SDO Nidhi Raj arrived at the scene with reinforcements. They managed to calm the crowd by offering firm assurances.
The officials promised a swift and thorough investigation into the boy's murder. They vowed to identify and arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
"A special team has been formed to investigate the murder," DSP Naresh Paswan stated clearly to the villagers.
The officials' intervention eventually defused the tense situation, allowing traffic to resume on the important national highway.
