Sambalpur Tattoo Studio Owner Arrested for Alleged Sexual Harassment of Employee
In a disturbing incident in Sambalpur city, a 44-year-old tattoo studio owner was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sexually harassing a 19-year-old woman employee multiple times within his workplace. The arrest followed a written complaint lodged by the survivor's family, prompting swift police action.
Details of the Alleged Incidents
According to Radhakanta Barik, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Bareipali police station, the first incident occurred a few days ago when the accused reportedly misbehaved with the woman at his studio. Despite her clear objections and warnings, he allegedly repeated the act the following day, escalating the harassment.
Investigators stated that the accused is accused of touching the employee inappropriately inside the shop, causing her significant distress. Shocked by the repeated misconduct, she left the workplace immediately and informed her family about the traumatic events.
Police Response and Legal Action
Upon being approached by the family, the police registered a formal case, identified as case no. 39, under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 126(2) for wrongful restraint and Section 75(2) for sexual harassment, reflecting the severity of the allegations.
The arrest underscores the importance of reporting such incidents and the role of law enforcement in addressing workplace harassment. Authorities are continuing their investigation to gather further evidence and ensure justice for the survivor.
