A violent shooting incident in Samastipur district has left one man dead and another critically injured, with police suspecting gang rivalry as the primary motive behind the attack. The tragic event unfolded on Monday afternoon in Madhopur village under the jurisdiction of Kalyanpur police station.
Details of the Shooting Victims
The deceased has been identified as Amit Kumar alias Fekan, a 26-year-old resident of Uttarsari village under Chakmehsi police station area. According to official records, Amit Kumar had a significant criminal history with cases of murder and kidnapping registered against him, though he was reportedly engaged in small-scale business activities at the time of the incident.
The injured victim is 27-year-old Rajeev Kumar from Jitwariya Chandni Chowk under Kalyanpur police station. Due to the severity of his injuries, which included three gunshot wounds, he was immediately referred to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for emergency medical treatment.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Shooting
According to preliminary police investigations, the incident began around 1 PM when Amit Kumar and Rajeev Kumar arrived separately at Madhopur Chowk on their motorcycles. Three other youths, who had arrived on another motorcycle, were already present at the location.
After a brief conversation, all five individuals reportedly proceeded together toward a maize field situated near the Budhi Gandak river. What began as a conversation soon escalated into a heated argument over an undisclosed issue, during which one group allegedly issued threats to the other.
The situation deteriorated rapidly when one side allegedly opened indiscriminate fire. Amit Kumar sustained multiple bullet injuries to his head, chest, and other parts of his body, resulting in his immediate death at the scene. Rajeev Kumar suffered three gunshot wounds during the same attack.
