Sadhu Impersonator Caught on Camera Stealing Temple Crown and Cash in Lucknow

A shocking incident unfolded at a temple in Lucknow where a man disguised as a holy man committed theft. The accused targeted the Durga Mata temple located in Murli Nagar within the Mohanlalganj area.

CCTV Footage Captures the Entire Theft

Surveillance cameras recorded the man entering the temple premises on the evening of January 11. He opened the temple gate and spent considerable time inside the sanctum. The footage clearly shows him exiting with stolen items.

Temple administrator Madhusudan Trivedi discovered the theft on Tuesday. He noticed something unusual and decided to investigate further.

"I became suspicious and removed the chunari covering the idol," Trivedi explained. "That's when I found the crown missing. We immediately checked the CCTV recordings."

Police Investigation Underway

Mohanlalganj police registered a formal complaint on Thursday based on the temple's report. Station House Officer DK Singh confirmed the case registration.

"We are examining the CCTV footage carefully," SHO DK Singh stated. "Our team is working to identify the accused person seen in the recordings."

The stolen items include:

  • The deity's valuable crown
  • Cash from the temple donation box

How the Theft Was Executed

The accused exploited the limited presence of devotees at the shrine. His disguise as a sadhu helped him avoid suspicion while carrying out the theft.

The CCTV footage has since gone viral on social media platforms. People are sharing the video widely, expressing outrage at the incident.

Police continue their investigation while examining all available evidence from the temple premises.
