In a major burglary incident, unidentified thieves targeted the house of a grocery store owner in Rajgurunagar, Pune, making off with cash and valuables worth a staggering Rs 68 lakh. The crime occurred in the early hours of January 3, taking advantage of the family's absence.
Family Away on Trip, Neighbour Alerts
The 59-year-old complainant, who runs a grocery store on Pabal Road in Rajgurunagar with his brother, had travelled with his entire joint family to Akkalkot in the Solapur district on January 2. The break-in was discovered the next day, January 3, when a concerned neighbour noticed the broken locks on the house and immediately informed the owner over the phone.
The family cut short their trip and returned to Rajgurunagar that very night. Upon entering their home, they were met with a scene of disarray. The intruders had broken open the cupboards, scattering belongings across the floor. A preliminary assessment revealed a significant loss.
Staggering Loss of Cash and Jewellery
According to the complaint lodged with the Khed police, the burglars stole Rs 9.5 lakh in cash, along with a substantial amount of gold and silver jewellery. Other valuable articles were also taken. The total estimated value of the stolen property amounts to Rs 68 lakh.
The Khed police have registered a case of burglary and have initiated a thorough investigation. An officer involved in the case stated that the primary focus is on scrutinising electronic evidence from the vicinity to identify the culprits.
Police Investigation Underway
"We are checking CCTV footage in the area to ascertain the identity of the thieves," the officer from Khed police said. The investigation aims to trace the movements of the suspects before and after the incident, which occurred in the Khed taluka area of Pune district.
This high-value theft has sent shockwaves through the local community in Rajgurunagar, highlighting concerns about property security. The police are urging residents to remain vigilant, especially when planning to leave their homes unattended for extended periods.
