Jhunjhunu Man Threatened with Death in Rs 3 Crore Extortion Call

Police in Jhunjhunu district have launched an investigation after a serious extortion threat was reported. The complainant is Manvendra Singh Chauhan, son of former treasurer of the Shri Shyam Temple Committee, Kalu Singh Chauhan. He told authorities he received a menacing call demanding a massive sum of money from a person identifying himself as a member of a notorious gang.

The Chilling WhatsApp Threat

According to the filed complaint, the incident occurred on January 4. Manvendra Singh Chauhan received a WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller did not mince words, delivering a direct and terrifying ultimatum.

The voice on the other end claimed, "I am Harry Boxer from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Arrange 3 crore rupees by tomorrow evening, or be ready to die. Do not take this matter lightly. I will come to your house and kill you with bullets and grenades." The explicit mention of weapons escalated the threat's severity, leaving the family in fear.

Police Action and a Wider Pattern of Threats

Taking the threat seriously, Manvendra Singh Chauhan approached the Khatushyamji police station. Based on his formal report, officials have registered a case and initiated a detailed probe. SHO Pawan Kumar Chaube confirmed the registration of the case and the ongoing investigation.

This is not an isolated incident in the region. Police noted a worrying trend of similar extortion attempts. In the neighboring Sikar district, at least 12 people have previously reported receiving extortion calls from individuals claiming affiliation with the Rohit Godara and Lawrence Bishnoi gangs.

Furthermore, within the jurisdiction of the Khatushyamji police station itself, two other individuals—Shyam Sundar Punia and Puranmal Harnathka—had earlier reported facing analogous threats. This pattern suggests a possible coordinated attempt to intimidate and extort money from residents in the area using the feared reputation of these gangs.

The police are now working to trace the origin of the WhatsApp call and identify the individual behind the alias "Harry Boxer." The case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces with digitally facilitated crimes and the misuse of gang names to instill terror for financial gain.
