Highway Robbery: Rs 24 Lakh in Goods Stolen from Moving Truck Near Haveri
In a brazen late-night incident, thieves made off with valuable items worth approximately Rs 24 lakh from a moving truck on the Bengaluru-Pune national highway. The theft occurred between Haveri and Ranebennur on Thursday night, targeting goods belonging to a private online marketing company.
Details of the Stolen Goods and Truck
The looted cargo consisted of high-value mobile phones and premium dry fruits, which were being transported from Bengaluru to Dharwad. The truck was owned by Mallikjaan Mulla, who was contracted to deliver the company's products. This incident highlights the vulnerabilities in logistics security on major highways.
How the Theft Was Executed and Discovered
The robbers employed a sophisticated method to carry out the theft. They broke the Linkit tracking device installed on the truck, which is designed to monitor location and prevent unauthorized stops. However, this act triggered an immediate alert to the company's security system.
Upon receiving the alert, company officials promptly contacted the truck driver. The driver then stopped the vehicle to inspect the cargo, only to discover that a portion of the goods had been stolen. The quick response from the tracking system helped in early detection, though the thieves had already fled with the loot.
Police Investigation and Case Registration
A formal case has been registered at the Ranebennur rural police station. Authorities are investigating the theft, examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning potential witnesses. The police are also analyzing the broken tracking device for forensic evidence that could lead to the culprits.
This incident raises concerns about highway safety and the effectiveness of anti-theft measures in the logistics industry. Companies are urged to enhance security protocols for high-value shipments, especially on long-distance routes.
