The breakthrough came after authorities discovered a crucial piece of evidence—a receipt found in the waste—which led to the identification and penalization of those responsible.
Discovery and Investigation
The incident came to light on Thursday when track maintenance staff reported the presence of multiple garbage bags along the railway track. Upon receiving the report, the RPF team from Thiruvananthapuram Central sprang into action. They examined CCTV footage and conducted a thorough on-ground investigation to gather evidence.
During the search, constables found a receipt with the name of a local cooperative society among the dumped garbage. This receipt proved to be a vital clue in tracing the source of the illegal dumping.
Tracing the Source and Legal Action
Following the receipt, the RPF team traced the garbage back to a nearby commercial establishment. An official stated that the establishment had outsourced the disposal of fruit waste to a private agency. Further inquiry revealed that the agency had engaged an individual for disposal at a charge per bag, who then illegally dumped the waste in the railway area.
The individual was promptly traced, and a case was registered under Sections 147 and 145(b) of the Railway Act, which deal with trespass and nuisance offenses. The dumped garbage was removed from the railway premises, and the railway health authorities imposed a disinfection charge of Rs 5,000 on the responsible parties.

They emphasized that trespass and nuisance, including illegal dumping of garbage, are punishable offenses under Sections 147 and 145(b) of the Railway Act.
