Major Drug Bust at Nagpur Railway Station by Central Railway RPF
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway has delivered a significant blow to interstate drug trafficking operations with a major seizure at Nagpur railway station. In a meticulously executed operation, authorities confiscated a substantial 25 kilograms of narcotics, primarily ganja, with an estimated street value of approximately Rs4 lakh. This decisive action underscores the RPF's intensified vigilance against the illicit drug trade across railway networks.
Surveillance Leads to Interception of Suspicious Individual
On March 6, a dedicated RPF team, comprising an inspector, an assistant sub-inspector, and two personnel, was conducting routine surveillance at Nagpur railway station. During their patrol, they observed an individual carrying two bags that appeared suspicious. Acting promptly on their training and instincts, the team approached and detained the person for further questioning.
A thorough search was then conducted in the presence of independent witnesses to ensure transparency and legal compliance. This search revealed nine packets concealed within the bags, all containing ganja. The total weight of the seized narcotics was confirmed to be 25kg, highlighting the scale of the illegal consignment.
Investigation Unravels Interstate Trafficking Network
Subsequent investigation identified the suspect as Shahid Khan, a native of Madhya Pradesh. It was uncovered that Khan was actively transporting the drugs from Nagpur to Gwalior, indicating a well-organized interstate trafficking route. The RPF's interception not only prevented the distribution of these narcotics but also disrupted a key link in the supply chain.
Following the seizure and initial inquiry, Shahid Khan was formally arrested. He has been handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Nagpur for further investigation and legal proceedings. This collaboration between RPF and GRP is expected to delve deeper into the network, potentially leading to more arrests and seizures.
Implications and Ongoing Efforts
This seizure is part of a broader crackdown by railway authorities on drug trafficking, which poses serious threats to public health and safety. The RPF's proactive measures, including enhanced surveillance and intelligence gathering, are crucial in combating such crimes. Officials have emphasized that such operations will continue relentlessly to safeguard passengers and maintain the integrity of railway infrastructure.
The success of this operation serves as a stern warning to traffickers and underscores the importance of community vigilance. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities at railway stations to help in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
